SUMMARY:Presentation on 2023 Motogiro di California in Paso by Phil Sutter and Jeff Koskie
DESCRIPTION:For our March meeting we’ll have a slide show by Phil Sutter and Jeff Koskie on last fall’s Motogiro di California in the Paso Robles area.  Phil rode it and Jeff was one of the chase vehicle drivers.    This is an event that originated in Italy many years ago and still goes on to this day. Groups in other countries have organized events that strive to maintain the same format and focus.   In the U.S. there is one event every year on the West Coast and another on the East Coast.  There is no formal club or organization and the events are organized totally by volunteers who are active riders. \nTo participate in the event\, you must ride an Italian motorcycle that is 175cc or less.  Classes are usually split into 175cc\, 125cc\, 100cc\, and 50cc. Motorcycles are supposed to be limited to models produced previous to 1958. However\, you may use a newer Italian motorcycle if it is produced from a design that originated in that defined time frame. For instance\, Gilera produced 105cc and 124cc motorcycles prior to 1958 and continued to produce the same design into the late 1960s. Therefore\, those later years qualify. \nThe bike rules were as standard for Giros – manufactured 1957 and earlier\, 175cc or less though the date was less important than the engine size which was strictly adhered to with the result that we had 19x175cc\, 2x150cc\, 7x125cc and 1x106cc. .\nThere was also quite a variety of bikes that were ridden:\n6 Ducati\, 6 MV Agusta\, 4 Gilera\, 2 Benelli\, 2 Bianchi\, 2 Moto Guzzi\, 1 Aermacchi\, 1 Ceccato\n1 Mondial\, 1 Morini\, 1 Motobi\, 1 NSU\, 1 Parilla \nWe’ll meet at Petra at 6:30 and pizza will be provided.

SUMMARY:Isle of Mann presentation by Jason Len
DESCRIPTION:This month we’ll have a presentation by Jason Len on his recent trip to the Isle of Man for the Manx TT and Classic TT motorcycle races. A fantastic event\, specially the Classic TT for classic motorcycle enthusiast like me. There are races\, shows\, displays\, and amazing motorcycles wherever you go. \nI love this event because it’s a great combination of extremely fast modern motorcycle and graceful classic bikes racing. There is motorcycle shows and enthusiasm all over the island . The riding skill is amazing. Motorcycle racing on this island started in 1909 and is part of the culture here. The down side is racing on these narrow stone lined streets is extremely dangerous and every year riders lose their lives. On average 5 fatalities a year. In the five days we were here two riders died which makes me feel guilty for enjoying it so much. \nThe island has lots to offer other than motorcycle racing. People have lived on the island almost 10\,000 years. So there is a lot of history here. It is its own separate country with very low taxes so it is a home to very wealthy people. Its hay day was the 1800s\, when it was a very popular resort for the Victorian Era wealthy. Tourism died out when transportation to warmer areas of Spain and France became the vogue. Then in 1909 the TT races revived the economy. There are four main cities all with seeing\, Douglas\, Castle\, Peel\, and Ramsey. The island is on 40 mikes long so it’s easy to see them all. Currently Douglas is the capital but the cities take turns being the capital. \nPeople from the Isle of Man are called Manx Men and the three legged emblem stands for “you can’t knock a good man off his feet”. \nHope you enjoy the photos

SUMMARY:Ride to RC Baker Museum in Coalinga with lunch at The Harris Ranch Kitchen Resturant
DESCRIPTION:Another new places!  Road Ride to R.C. Baker Memorial Museum in Coalinga with lunch at the Harris Ranch Kitchen Resturant.  (check out the menu) \nThis museum is a living collection that changes every time somebody brings something in. We don’t throw things away out here. Everything you see has been donated. The Museum is dedicated to preserving the story of the Pleasant Valley. From fossil and mastodon displays to Indian artifacts and the personal belongings of the pioneer families\, and the saga of oil\, sheep\, and cattle is told through the lives of the men\, women and families who made it all happen. The lush San Joaquin Valley was a vast\, inland sea\, creating fossil beds around Coalinga that are among the largest in the world. The museum is home to a survivor of that period\, a petrified snail\, 15 inches long\, 11 inches high and 13 inches wide. The museum occupies a space that once housed the first Baker Oil Tools machine shop. Mr. Baker purchased the former livery stable in 1918 so he would have a place to work out his equipment designs. It was on this floor that he would get down on his hands and knees with a blacksmith named Herman James (Helen Cowan’s Father) and drew his plans in yellow chalk. The Baker Foundation offered the old tool shop to the city for use as a museum in 1958. In 1961 the Museum officially opened. The original by-laws of the museum reflect the pioneering spirit of Coalinga. \nSell only items made in and around Coalinga; try to avoid applying for government grants so as to retain our independence; the public comes first; keep the museum open every day; let people feel and touch the exhibits; keep the cost of the annual dinner to minimum. \nThe R.C. Baker Memorial Museum is a collective memory of a community that helped fuel the American century. It is about the people who worked the land and created a spirit that has survived both the good and bad times. \nSince last month was a Saturday ride south we’ll make this month’s a Sunday Ride north.  We’ll start from The Black Horse Coffee Shop\, 1065 Higuera St\, San Luis Obispo\, CA 93401.  Sign up at 8:30 AM\, kick stands up at 9:00 AM.  We’ll meet the North county riders at Santa Margarita Park at 9:15 AM  This is an AMA Sanctioned Road Ride #75583 free to paid up members\, $10.00 otherwise.  We’ll eat first and the museum opens at 1:00 pm.
